New Millennium Secondary School (NMSS) is a charter high school in
Gardena, CA committed to preparing students to become life-long learners
and dynamic leaders in the competitive 21st century. NMSS was created
to address the rising global competitive environment for talent. The
United States currently ranks 15th in the world in terms of K-12 student
achievement. Our students need to be better prepared to compete
in an ever changing world and NMSS is prepared to shoulder this responsibilty.

Kim Irons, Chief Executive Officer/Executive Director
serves as the CEO/ED as of July 2015. Before taking on the role of
CEO/ED, she served as Principal since November of 2009 and
Principal/Executive Director in 2012. Previously, she was the Master
Social Studies Teacher at NMSS, where she taught Geography and World
History. Mrs. Irons was the first teacher hired at NMSS in 2008. She
has taught at Lawndale HS and Redondo Union HS, and she has also served
as Student Activities Director and has led Student Government. Mrs.
Irons oversaw the creation and implementation of the NMSS Student
earned a B.A. from UC Santa Cruz in just three years. She then earned
an M.A. from UCLA. She completed the Charter School Leadership program
at Loyola Marymount University and currently serves as a mentor for the
CSUDH Charter & Autonomous School Leadership Academy. Mrs. Irons was
the co-recipient of the Educator of the Year Award from the Wilmington
Coordinating Council for the 2009-2010 school year.
Samantha Navarro, Principal
Navarro was named Principal in July, 2015 after serving as the assistant
principal since June of 2012. Previously she was a social studies
teacher at NMSS where she taught World History and United States
History. Ms. Navarro taught at Brethren Christian High School for 7
years prior to coming to NMSS. There she taught United States History
Navarro earned a B.A. from BIOLA University. She then earned an M.A. in
Classroom Instruction from BIOLA University and an M.A. in Educational
Leadership from the University of Arizona.
Robert Kogler, Assistant Principal
Robert Kogler was named
Assistant Principal at NMSS in April, 2014. Prior to becoming the
Assistant Principal, Mr. Kogler worked at NMSS as an English Teacher,
Literacy Coach, and Teacher Mentor. He briefly worked for another
charter management organization as a literacy coach before returning to
NMSS as Assistant Principal.
