Our school is so small that we decided not to put up any doors in our collective office! Everyone – from the Principal to the Office Administrators – sits together in a shared office space. NMSS students walk in and wave at our Principal on the regular, saying “Navarro – what’s up?” across our small office, and receiving big grins and high-fives every time.
We make time for our students and see the benefits every day. Our hearts grow with every close connection, and this effect rubs off on everyone who walks through our doors!

Students at NMSS thrive because of the layers of support, camaraderie, and positive regard we hold for each other throughout the NMSS family. We get to know the parents and grandparents of our students and check in on each other if we don’t see someone come in the way we are used to seeing them. By getting to know each other, we are more able to pick up on small changes that we might not even see in a larger school environment.
Our teachers are recruited for their expertise, but often they choose us because they know they’re coming to us not just to teach, but also to become the family members of our students themselves. The conversations we have and the way we interact is just so very different than a traditional high school. We all treat our students as if they ARE our kids, and as such, we are dedicated to their success!
