Does the question “What are you going to do after high school graduation?” sometimes make you feel anxious? Do you have questions about what you want to do or where you want to go or even how to make your dreams happen? Take a deep breath and relax because New Millennium Secondary School (NMSS) is here to help you every step of the way as you navigate your exciting adult life.

Setting You Up for Success

Our small, close-knit public high school is known for its A+ support of students and community and this applies not only to high school, but what happens after high school too. Our school was created, in fact, to help our students meet the 21st century and we believe preparing for college is an important part of that.

We include college credit in our high school curriculum, so we can show you that college doesn’t have to be intimidating. We have free classes right here on our Gardena campus through East LA Community College and Southwest Community College but there are online opportunities as well.

We also require community service credits because we champion supporting our community, giving our students leadership opportunities, and because when it comes to applying to college, community service stands out

One on One Resources

At NMSS, we offer college prep in many ways.

First, we set you up for high school success by hosting a Freshman orientation before school even starts. We offer lots of math support. Our small class sizes and personalized learning plans mean that you get a lot of attention from our dedicated teachers and staff.

We also have online resources for college, including a year-by-year college planner that lays out in detail what you can do every month of your high school career to prepare for college. Yep, we spell it out because at our big-hearted public charter school, we are invested in your future.

Our guidance counselor, Mrs. Sampson, holds senior meetings throughout the year to assist with college planning. She offers one-on-one assistance in the college application and FAFSA process. Because college is a family affair at our small community-driven public school, she also meets with parents to discuss college admission processes and required financial obligations. Once you’re admitted to a college, Mrs. Sampson works with you to make sure you’re set up with a college admission counselor to detail an academic plan.

And all of this is free, at our public high school.

One Size Does Not Fit All

While we prepare our 9th-12th graders with college prep classes and offer college application support, we know that some of our students will take a different path that doesn’t include college- and we’re here to support this, too. Mrs. Sampson is happy to discuss your options, including vocational and certificated programs.  She points you in the right direction for your dreams. We want the best for you!

Likewise, our small school plays big on Gardena High’s sports teams and you just never know when a scout could see you and give you the boost you need to make your sports AND academic ambitions come true.
