Being a teenager is amazing and frustrating, in equal measures. You’re figuring out who you want to be, and changing who you want to be all the time. You don’t want the same boring routine yet you want to know what’s expected of you. New Millennium Secondary School (NMSS) understands. Our small and dynamic public high school in Gardena, California makes sure you know what you’re getting and getting what you want in a fun, engaging way!

Stability Doesn’t Mean Snoozefest

At  NMSS, we may take our studies seriously in preparing you for a college education, but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Classes offered at our small, tuition-free school meet California’s A-G requirements -which are needed to be admitted to a California university- but we spice them up according to your interests. We work with you to find classes that inspire you…art maybe, or a community college class (all our students complete free college credit after all)…or at least get your math out of the way first thing in the morning when you have the most focus.

One of our stated values at our vibrant high school is relevance to your life because we want you engaged at our close-knit school. We cater our classes to have real world applications so you see how your studies are used outside the classroom.

Another key value at NMSS is personalizing your education to fit you. Every student has an individualized education plan and an advisor who helps you make sense of it all. We check-in regularly and meet you where you are, helping you stay on track or strategizing revisions as needed.

Expect the Unexpected

We think it’s really important that you know what’s expected of you so we start with a very informal and fun orientation for our freshman and new students at the beginning of our school year. During the school year, we connect on a daily basis and offer support in a variety of ways, including an Instagram series called “Just Wondering” where we cover all kinds of topics as we wonder together how to make this world a better place.

At NMSS we also talk a lot about college and career possibilities so you can plan ahead for your future. During your time here, we have a planning calendar keeping you organized, starting with freshman year and finishing with graduation. And of course, we have Mr. Kirtz, our school counselor, available anytime to help you with high school scheduling, free college credits you can take now, college advice and financial aid details, and emotional support.  We want to help you, it’s the Warrior way!

Light Up Your Life

At our free public high school, we keep school sizzling with fun events throughout the year. Like the beach? We just went at the beginning of the school year but don’t worry, we’ll go again. Like a buzzy group energy? A group of us just ran together in the San Pedro Bridge Run. Want to stay on-campus but still shake things up? We have our Water Bowl, lip sync battles, and community service projects that you make happen right here! We also play for Gardena High’s sports teams so try out for soccer, football, tennis, basketball, or any of their other teams and feel the electrifying thrill of big CIF athletics!

We’re still enrolling for the 2022-23 school year so find out more about our stable and electric tuition-free public high school.  Call us at 310-999-6162 and talk to one of our friendly staff, or fill out an application and join our Warrior team.  We can’t wait to meet you!
