Psst. Want to know one of the most challenging parts of high school? Getting help when you need it. Well, it can be challenging if you’re at a big school just trying to keep up with shuffling between classes and figuring out what comes next, but here at New Millennium Secondary School (NMSS), being accessible and giving help is the name of our Warrior game. What’s more, we have room for you!
The High School Hustle
At our tuition-free public high school, we know you are dealing with ALL the things. You have to get to school on time, focus on your classes, keep up with your friends, and maybe even think about your future (we’ll get to that in a minute). NMSS is here streamlining your academic life beginning with an orientation and touching base every day. Do you need help juggling your schedule or picking out free college classes you can take right here? We can help. Do you want to work during school hours but are worried about getting time off during school to do that? Talk to us! We created our open-office (no doors and secret chambers here) so you can stop by, say hello, give us feedback or ask about your schedule – we’re here for you!
Our office isn’t the only place to get help. Our teachers are here helping not only with class work, after-school clubs, and academic concerns – but also your emotional well-being. We understand it’s hard to focus on grammar when you’re worried about making a varsity team and we are here to listen, listen some more, and maybe even give advice, IF you want it. Likewise, you have an advisor working alongside you, guiding, reviewing, and cheering you on, all the way through graduation.
What About My Future?
At our small, close-knit high school, we’re thinking about your time here but also about your future. We take pride in our strong college prep curriculum, complete with free college credits taken right here on campus. We also discuss career options that don’t involve college and we help guide you through all your options. Wondering who you talk to for help? Our guidance counselor Mr. Kirtz is a good place to start but we’re all here to give advice or answer questions so you can’t go wrong.
As far as college goes, we set you up with a college counselor to bridge the communication gap between high school and college so you’re never alone and frustrated, wondering what the next step is.
Time to Let Loose
The great thing about having access to easy help is you have more time to do the fun things you want to do in high school. Instead of worrying about financial aid for college (we can help), you can focus on creating a compelling community service project that you’re passionate about or helping out in our food pantry. No panic attacks over college deadlines – or even high school ones – because we connect with you every day, making sure you’re okay. So focus up on our upcoming lip-sync battle, or your latest art project, or sure, a little math review wouldn’t hurt either, you’ve got time.
Speaking of easy access, did you know you can play big CIF sports for Gardena High right here at NMSS? Get individualized learning help here with us and then walk over for football practice on their turf. Game on!
