Oh goodness, are we excited to see you! Our first day of school is August 8th and there is so much to catch up on. And! So much to look forward to together, as we begin another exciting year at New Millennium Secondary School (NMSS).
New Staff Warriors!
A new school year always comes with new growth. Our teachers and staff have been working hard this summer to prepare for your return! Principal Navarro, in her thirteenth year at NMSS, is working full-speed ahead to make sure this school year is just as fabulous as you are. She took a quick minute recently and introduced us to some new faces at our small, tuition-free public school.
Say hello to our new assistant principal, Mr. Menduke, who can be found in the G1 main office, right when you walk in. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Diego, and a master’s from Loyola Marymount University. He’s a big fan of baseball and loves Derek Jeter, or as he refers to him, “‘the greatest shortstop of all time”. He’s also the Varsity Baseball coach at West Torrance High School, who coincidentally, are also named the Warriors. Mr. Menduke is married and his wife is a special education educator. In his office corner, he has books that are important to him, and he’s excited to share and chat about them, so stop by! No word yet what song he’s working on for the next lip sync battle but you better believe he’s keeping up his arm strength to douse Principal Navarro with a cooler amount of water at the next Water Bowl.
Mr. Kirtz is our new school counselor. He was our counseling intern last year so he can find his way around and knows many of you at our close-knit high school. He takes the reins from our beloved Mrs. Sampson so he has big shoes to fill but we are confident he’s going to rock it! He’s here to talk you through college class options, college and financial aid applications, and your Dynamic Form in our G1 office as well. This year he’s “looking forward to so much- come talk to me about your schedule, something in life that’s bothering you, just come by and let’s chat!”
We also have a brand new resource teacher, Ms. Gonzalez. She’s ready to welcome students for small group instruction in her H2 classroom and is busy decorating (stop by to help…please?!) and getting ready for the big first day.

The energy on campus from teachers and staff makes us feel that this will be our best year yet. Everyone has worked hard this summer preparing for your return. Always with a twinkle in her eye, Principal Navarro says, “I am so excited for this school year, it is an HONOR to be in your lives and an honor to be your principal! Expectations are high for you and we’re going to have a great year!”
As usual, communication with you, our families, is central to a successful year. Our communication tools are up and running, including our Parent Portal and 2022-2023 Student-Parent Handbook.
